Prepare for the current TOEFL iBT with experienced ILI instructors in Washington, DC. ILI offers Intensive, evening and Saturday TOEFL preparation options, with open enrollment and placement to determine readiness for the program. Updated for the TOEFL iBT introduced January 21, 2026: the current test includes new Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking task types, adaptive Reading and Listening sections, and a 1–6 score scale.
Join one of our three TOEFL Preparation classes and get ready for taking the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)! Advanced English skills are required for enrollment. A placement test will be given to all new students.
Intensive TOEFL Preparation Class
This class includes intensive work on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as strategies and practice for the current TOEFL iBT task types. The complete course is eight weeks. Our intensive TOEFL class meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 2:10 pm. Please contact ILI for current required materials and textbook information.
ILI has open enrollment. Official Intensive TOEFL start dates are every four weeks, and we recommend beginning on an official start date whenever possible. Students may also enter on another Monday after placement. We do not have application deadlines, but students who require an F-1 visa should apply well in advance to allow time for the visa process.
The I-20 form for an F-1 student visa may be issued for eligible students in the Intensive TOEFL Preparation class who meet ILI’s F-1 enrollment requirements. For current requirements and procedures, please see our F-1 Student Information page.

Semi-Intensive Evening TOEFL Preparation Class
Our semi-intensive evening TOEFL classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:40 pm to 8:45 pm. The complete course is 24 weeks. Please contact ILI for current required materials and textbook information. Students can start any Tuesday.
Tuition: $280 for 4 weeks
Semi-Intensive Saturday TOEFL Preparation Class
Our semi-intensive Saturday TOEFL classes meet from 9:00 am to 1:05 pm, including a 20-minute break. The complete course is 40 weeks. Please contact ILI for current required materials and textbook information. Students can start any Saturday.
Tuition: $170 for 4 weeks
Enrollment:
To enroll in any of our TOEFL Preparation classes, the student needs to complete an application and pay a $100 registration fee. The minimum age is 14. The preferred way to apply is through our Online Application. Students who need a printable application can use our Forms & Documents page. Prospective students may also come to our school and apply in person. Advanced English skills are required for enrollment. A placement test will be given to all new students.
Placement Testing:
All new students are required to score “advanced” on our placement test for this class. Students take this test online. The instructions on how to take our placement test will be emailed once we have received your paid application. F-1 visa students will take this test once they have received the visa.
Payment Policy:
Tuition for the first 4 weeks has to be paid entirely before the student is allowed in class.
Taking the TOEFL
The preparation class does not include registering for or taking the official test. Please note that ILI is not a test center for the TOEFL. To find a test center or to register for the official test, please go to www.ets.org/toefl.
